Welcome Back, Families

A Welcome Message to WHES Families

Dear WHES Families,

It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome you all to the 2019/2020 school year at Witchcraft Heights Elementary School.  Each year as the sun begins to set a little earlier and the air becomes a bit brisker it hard to fight the feeling of excitement that comes upon us as we anticipate the beginning of a new school year.  I am confident that this is going to be a great one!

Teachers have already been a bustle in the building getting classrooms set up and ready for your arrival on Wednesday, September 4.  Our school will open for all students at 7:30. Students will enter the school via the front doors and will go directly to the Gym or the Cafeteria for their morning activities. Students in Grades 2 - 5 who arrives after 7:30 and before 8:05 will choose one of the two options:

  • Option #1: Silent Reading and Journaling and Homework Club (Cafeteria)
  • Option #2: Walking Club and Basketball (in Gym or outside)
  • Students in KDG and Grade 1 will go to the cafeteria.

Breakfast will not be served in the cafeteria this year.  I am excited to announce that WHES has received a grant for The Breakfast-After-The-Bell program.  Breakfast will begin at 8:05 for all students and will be eaten in classrooms as a community practice.  Please note that staff is not on duty until 7:30 and our school doors do NOT open until 7:30 and we will not be able to ensure the safety of early arrivals.

I am excited to announce that we are unveiling our new Vision and Mission Statement and Values System for WHES this year.  Please see the additional document that outlines this initiative.  The WHES Community is going to thrive this year as we embrace our M.A.G.I.C.!

As you approach the school you will notice updated paint markings and signs.  Please follow the arrows and obey the signs as you move around the building.  You will see school staff, including myself or our Assistant principal, Mrs. Carmona waving you down to the designated area on the sidewalk. This is our “Kiss and Go” lane.  We will be opening car doors and assisting students in exiting your cars starting at 7:45AM and ending at 8:18 AM.  Please move as far down as possible as this will help in moving students and cars quickly.  If you need to walk your child into school, please PARK in the Parking Lot directly across from our main entrance.  There will no longer be drop off and pick up parking along the ball field, but extra spaces will be designated in the front.  In addition, Burkinshaw Drive will be a One Way going down between the hours of 7:30 and 8:30 and 2:15 and 2:45. Parking will be allowed and encouraged along the right side of the road.  Please keep in mind another convenient drop off and pick up spot on Puritan Rd. at the bottom of the stairs.  Please see attached map.

I look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday, September 4.  It is truly going to be a magical year!
