What is an owl Pellet?
Pellets contain the indigestible remains of prey animals such as
rodents, shrews, moles, insects and small birds.
How are they formed?
Owls generally swallow their prey whole. They digest all the fleshy parts of the prey but are unable to digest the fur and bones. In the muscular stomach the indigestible parts are formed into an oval shape, called pellets. The pellets are regurgitated through the mouth.
