Helpful Homework Tips For Parents

  • Set aside a Regular Homework Time - This will establish homework as a priority for your child
  • Pick a Place - Study areas should have lots of light, supplies close by, and be fairly quiet
  • Remove Distractions - Turn off the televison, music and discourage social telephone calls or texts during homework times
  • Take a Break - If your child gets frustrated or feels his "brain is tired" allow a break......But be sure to return
  • "Help but Don't Do" - Helping your child with homeowrk is wonderful, but remember it is ultimately the student's responsibility to complete it. Homework provides useful feedback for the teachers in identifying areas needing extra instruction. It is "OK" for students to come to school with some homework incorrect. As I always tell them "If we didn't make mistakes, we wouldn't learn."
  • Remind Them - To always do their personal best and ask for help if they don't understand the assignment.
